Dear Reader,
Some of you know me personally while others have stumbled through the countless twists and turns of the internet to land here on my blog. Thanks for stopping by! This blog has undergone numerous name changes and background changes. Frankly, I cannot make up my mind as to how I want to present my writing. Some days I want to delve into the deep pools of centuries of theology and others I just want to discuss the struggles of severe all day sickness during my pregnancy. It seems, however, that I just want to connect with you my reader (and there may only be one of you out there and that's okay!). I want to write about what it means to be human and to choose Catholicism in every moment of every day. A struggle to be sure. I fail constantly. After all, our call to saintliness is not an easy one. Heck I just got short with my husband over something stupid. Gotta love pride!
The struggle for the post-modern Catholic is to hear what God is calling each and every one of us to do in this life amid the din of daily living. How many distractions can we continue to add to our lives? TV, movies, internet, social networking, cell phones, stereos, and so on. It's so noisy around here that I can't hear myself think let alone hear the voice of God. This is compounded by the fact that the local Catholic Church doesn't do well to push through the noise to reach its parishioners, it seems to add to the confusion. In fact, my husband and I had to leave the local church in order to find one that was within Catholic teaching- 30 miles away!
So, this is what I am going to write about from now on. I am going to write letters to you about how we all struggle to be Catholic in every moment. At times, we will fail miserably. I promise. Thankfully, it is not entirely up to us and we have God's love, mercy, and grace to lift us up. If I had to make the journey alone I would be in serious trouble. Granted I try to make the journey alone a good part of the time. There's that pride again! We Catholics and other Christians alike need to band together to help one another live the Gospel day in and day out. It is a journey meant to be done in community with one another. God bless!
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Traveler
