This past Sunday I finally made the decision to start veiling at Mass beginning Holy Week. I have a had a bit of nudging from the Holy Spirit for about three years now. I had a friend at our last parish who veiled and I have a friend at my current parish who veils. Both are the only veilers in their parishes. I started reading more about it and contemplating the reasons. Then I read Jennifer Fulwiler's awesome post on the matter and the Holy Spirit took the opportunity to switch from nudging to full on kicking. I ordered the same veil as Jen, except in the traditional black. It looks practical, comfortable, and lovely. My toddler may rip it off my head no matter what, but it looks like an easy to wear veil. The Etsy company who makes them apparently have a very large order right now. No doubt from the plug they got over at ConversionDiary.com. I am hoping that it arrives in time to don for Holy Week. I will eventually write about how I decided to veil and my experiences. If you are contemplating the move to veil check out Jen's post here. If you are looking for a veil check out Liturgical Time on Etsy. They have many beautiful handmade veils to order.

I had a rather itchy week. I had my second allergic reaction to an antibiotic. I discoverd that I was allergic to Sulfa in high school and now I am allergic to Macrobid. I became very itchy Tuesday night and my ears swelled up. I wandered around the house trying to figure out what was making me break out in a rash, then it dawned on me that antibiotics can cause a delayed allergic reaction. I am still fighting a UTI from my emergency D & C. It is a nasty one, so my doctor had to put me on Cipro since the 9 days on Macrobid (before the allergic reaction) did not clear it up. I am still slightly itchy, but it is not as obvious. My face was covered in a rash for a couple of days.

My husband and I are still negotiating on this house we are interested in. It is taking some time. It is hard for people to understand the great damage the 2008 housing market collapse did to home prices. Many homes are not appraising at the value they want or need. Our realtor is awesome and she has done a good job of explaining this to the sellers. We are just waiting for that message to get across to the co-signer who is a bit more old school and does not quite understand that a person cannot buy a home over appraisal value. No bank will approve that loan. We are hoping to be into a house by garden season.

My daughter is growing in leaps and bounds these days. She will be 20 months old very soon. I cannot believe how much she is changing. She looks like a little girl and is becoming more beautiful with each passing day. She has lots to say, if she would just get rid of the pacifier! She mimics what we say and tries all kinds of words. She can say small phrases. She eats well on her own, but she gets impatient and resorts to eating with her hands. I still need a hose after meals. She loves bathtime and dogs. Here is a picture of her from this morning:

It looks like spring may finally be arriving in these parts. It has been unseasonable cold this year. Thankfully Winter Storm Saturn spent little time here. Projections were initially anywhere from 5" to 12", but we actually got little more than a dusting. Things are warming up and we can expect sunny days in the mid 60s over the weekend. Spring and fall are my favorite times of year. I am looking forward to more time outside. My daffodils have held off blooming, and are waiting for warmer days. The tulips have started popping up and the hyacinth are holding off on blooming as well. Here is a photo from my Mary garden:

Of course the big news for Catholics today is the start date of the Conclave has finally been announced. It will begin Tuesday, March 12, 2013. I know that I have been waiting rather impatiently for them to decide. I have been quite surprised by some of the "candidates" who have been written about as possible Popes. While I would be overjoyed, I am deeply surprised that two American Cardinals are considered in the running: Cardinal Dolan and Cardinal O'Malley. To be quite honest, I would be greatly surprised if an American was selected. It is interesting to read the short bios being printed on the "possible" candidates. Unlike then Cardinal Ratzinger, many of these men are not well published. I have been following Fr. Dwight Longenecker's Papabiles. I know a lot of people found the selection of Joseph Ratzinger as a surprise. I found it to be a logical next step. With this Conclave I have no idea who the Cardinals will select. I just pray that they listen intently to the Holy Spirit for guidance and we in turn must pray and fast for them. The "dictatorship of relativism", combined with religious intolerance, poverty, lower numbers in the pews, and mismanagement of the Roman Curia, among other things, will keep our next Pontiff very busy. We will need a very strong leader for what is coming for the Church. I adopted a Cardinal to pray for on this website: www.adoptacardinal.org. I ended up with the German Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki.

I have the urge to watch The 10 Commandments. When I was growing up we always watched The Sound of Music and The 10 Commandments this time of year. In fact, they used to be on network television. I will have to wander around town to see if I can find it in a store. "So let it be written, so let it be done".
